William Wordsworth as a Romantic Poet

William Wordsworth is the powerful literary voice that has proclaimed a new trend in creative art especially in poetry. The world's people reached a new stage in English literature as well as world literature with the publication in Lyrical Ballads, jointly written by Wordsworth and Coleridge.In the Preface to Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth explained different aspects of this new sort of literary movement. He explained both the thematic and linguistic ideals of romanticism.

Indeed, romanticism started as a revolt of the individual against the established traditional values. But , it was more interesting that this movement itself turned into an established outlook because of its ever appealing declaration of individual freedom.In reality, romanticism began as an individual's rebellion against existing traditional values. But, because of its ever appealing declaration of individual freedom, it was more important that this movement itself became an existing outlook.as the language of poetry. Coleridge is also highly regarded as co-fighter with Wordsworth, and Blake as the founder of romantic movement. They are all credited with the beginning of the movement and are considered the first generation of romantic poets.But for continuing the trend, Shelley, Keats and Byron are counted as the second generation of romantic poets. Though romanticism got a new shape in Byron 's hand.

In most of his works, Wordsworth 's literary theories outlined in The Preface to Lyrical Ballads are expressed in the poetry collection in Lyrical Ballads especially. As some of his examples of romantic poetry, 'The Prelude,' Tintern Abbey,' 'Ode: Intimations of Immortality' etc. can be described.
